Why Do You? Episode 4 – Will Cullen Hart

Joining Ryan as his fourth guest of the “Why Do You?” podcast, Will Cullen Hart details his journey as a popular artist, and tells of his experiences after being diagnosed with MS. Throughout the podcast, the two are able to connect on a deeper level through their shared passion for music (psychedelic pop music to be exact).

As Ryan states in his introduction for Will at the beginning of the podcast, he attributes him with producing “some of the best psychedelic pop ever written.” Born in the early 1970’s and growing up in the small town of Ruston, Louisiana, Will was introduced to music at a young age. Digging into the realm of music throughout childhood, Hart would go on to become a co-founder of the Elephant 6 Recording Company, a collective composed of a wide variety of genres with an emphasis on psychedelic pop of the 1960’s. Notably, Will was also a member of the widely known band, The Olivia Tremor Control, and would later go on to join his former bandmates in creating the band named Circulatory System.

Ryan and Will’s shared interest in psychedelic pop isn’t the only thing that the two relate over throughout the podcast, as they both relate in facing life through the lens of a medical condition. When Ryan asks his guest what his mindset was after being diagnosed with MS over a decade ago, Will responds with four strong words: “I’m not giving up.” It is this mindset that bonds the two more than any other common interest they may have, and the mindset that truly embodies what the podcast is all about.
